A Common Heart
A Common Heart
By Rick Rucker
The strangest thing has come to pass,
I’ve been healed by one fair lass
While I did suffer a tremendous loss,
My heart no longer feels like dross
While I, once, might have thrown it away,
Now I pray that it will stay.
Where else would I hoard the Love,
Brought by that Angel from Above?
I’ve tried to, around her, act so cool,
I’m sure I look the perfect fool!
Exactly how “cool” can I be
I smile like The Cheshire Cat constantly?
When I saw her, on that first date,
I wanted to have her as my mate
I knew that it would never be
She was too lovely to be with me
She’s been to many faroff lands,
I make my living with my hands.
She is cultured, I am not,
Still, I seem to have found a spot
I snuck right into her heart,
Bypassing her thinking part.
If she had used her brain,
She would have flushed me down the drain!
She says she saw something there,
What it was, I do not care
As long as I can stay around,
Near her feet, I’ll kiss the ground!
I’ve been in love before,
Being older, this is more
This is Love, so intense
It defies description, common sense!
When we are holding hands,
Even without wedding bands,
We feel like one, without urging,
As if we are somehow merging,
We could trade any body part,
Except one, we share a common Heart!
