A Fall Into the Deep
I stand upon the lengthy pier,
It extends beyond the wave.
I've come to set romance adrift,
T is a love too late to save.
As the seagulls soar about me
With incessant mocking strain--
Indifferent to the love I've lost
And will never find again.
How appropriate, the misty chill
That envelopes as a shroud--
To witness such a burial
Of the promised and the vowed.
Some mourners would be welcome here
To eulogize the lost--
Some simple words of comfort
For so grand and dear a cost.
Thus closer to the rail, I
Do approach with antique blame--
Leaning o'er the blue-green swell
To forever douse the flame.
And when I am alone to see
This farewell to the soul--
I'll take the leap, one final time,
And to the deep, I fall.
