Love Poem: A Ghost

A Ghost

What do you do when love turns to ache?
When nothing you do can ease the heartbreak.
Alone in the darkness and filled with despair,
When the one that you love no longer cares.

Gut wrenching sadness is all that you feel,
Alone in a world that no longer seems real.
Gone are the dreams of the life we would share,
A porch, years from now, with two wooden chairs.

Now I stand by myself alone in the rain,
My eyes filled with tears and my heart full of pain.
Gone is my Wonderful, my soul's dearest friend,
Who, before God, promised me love till life's end.

Real love is not lightly or easily found.
When freely given joy will abound.
But love unrequited, brings nothing but sorrow.
Despair and chaos replace dreams of tomorrow.

My sun, moon, and stars you stole like a thief,
Leaving me only emptiness and grief.
My sweet, pretty flowers and handsome little man,
Taking them too, seemed part of your plan.

You turned away when I needed you most;
Erased from your life already a ghost.
