A Kind of Love
We’re writing hieroglyphics for the next civilization to decipher
Armageddon is brewed in the lab for children like us born in petri-dishes
Raised like crops plugged amid weeds
We downgrade to something less than human
The weather forecast is hot under the collar
Amid self elected rule
A runaway economy fallen off the tracks
We salvage what we can from the wreckage
And build our shacks anew
Missiles resemble fireworks at major festivities
Love is a script written for puppet theatre
Hate is a t-shirt mass printed,
And worn to peace rallies and even weddings
Boy soldiers give their lives needlessly to the killing fields
I hugged my lover’s dead bones today
In her memory like a bullet to the temple
Alive, I buried her in a shallow grave, dug with my rifle as I returned fire
I mark my final resting place next to hers
To replenish the soil with a kind of love
