A Little Rain Must Fall
She said to me,
“Into each life, a little rain must fall”
Her voice was sweet and humble
in a Grandmother’s tone
Indeed, she was of vintage
and I, her young friend and neighbor
With wisdom of the ages,
as I lamented my latest woe,
she uttered those words
which echo still in my mind
No need to explain, I knew the cliche’
and yet her sincerity and love
made them ring true
We need rain to grow, to thrive
She taught me to fear not
the maturity of the human being
“Getting older is not so bad” she offered
You are going to be ok!
Although she slipped away so long ago,
and I am now older than she was
when I knew her,
her sweet advice still soothes me
Whenever life brings forth the clouds,
I think of her and I remember her words
and I let it rain
