A Love Story
Once upon a time not quite so long ago
in a not so distant land I met a girl I know.
I didn't ride a gallant steed to storm a castle hold.
There was no mystic prophecy where your name was foretold
But time brought us together as our friendship slowly grew
and through distance found us more alike than ever ere we knew
Our life may not seem a fairy tale although, perhaps in fact, it is
Because even with a genie's lamp I could not wish for more than this
The alchemy we discovered may not make gold from lead
But it entwined two unique lives into a single thread.
So often like a storybook, some wait for a day profound
but I think it's in the everyday where love is truly found
In the notice of a secret smile, a gentle, loving touch,
or the linger of a parting kiss to let you know how much
But also in the tougher times in arms of comforting embrace,
words that bring encouragement, or hands to wipe tears from your face.
A half-score of years we've shared, and, though many things have changed,
the feelings that I held have not in the slightest waned.
So for every chapter written and for the pages yet unpenned
Let us make happily ever after ours until it reads ... The End
A half score of years is 10 years
