A Million Stars
A MILLION STARS
A million stars sparkled that night,
Up there in a cloudless sky.
Out there, far from the glare of city lights,
They seemed brighter than ever before.
I offered to count them for you,
On, two, three, four …
But, before I got to twenty,
Your lips got in the way.
I thought I would sing that song to you;
“Shall I catch a shooting star,
Shall I bring it where you are?
If you want me to….”
But your lips got in the way.
We smile when we think back
To that starry night so long ago.
And when you smile,
Your eyes still sparkle
Brighter than those million stars.
If I try to finish the song,
“I will share eternity with you …”
Will your lips get in the way?
