A Mouse Like Me
When I was young,
When I was small,
I didn’t doubt,
Love was about,
Nothing at all.
But as I grew,
Where the river runs fast,
I clung to the things,
I rung from the rings,
Of my childhood past.
In my Father’s house,
On my Father’s face,
Was a mountain so high,
I would fall off and die,
If I stepped out of place.
Oh, what is a man,
But a very small boy,
When the going is tough,
And I cry, that’s enough,
I still reach for a toy.
I have to be me,
I have to be strong,
To build my own house,
And still be a mouse,
For right or for wrong.
I have to true,
To be all I can be,
Whether Kraken or clam,
Or the mouse that I am,
I have to be me!
