A Picture of a Flower
A picture of a flower
Is not, in fact, a true flower,
No matter how colorful,
But it is, in effect, an attempt to portray
Some aspect of that flower’s truth.
A memory of happiness
Is not, in fact, true happiness,
No matter how wonderful,
But it is, in effect, an attempt to recall
Some evidence of happiness once true.
A poem about love
Is not, in fact, true love,
No matter how beautiful,
But it is, in effect, an attempt to reveal
Some perspective on love’s truth.
