A Plain Stone
She’s plain, but she has a good heart
How many of them were so pretty?
Burned my heart in their flighty gaiety.
This one is simple and true with no fancy airs.
There lies that plain stone on the seashore,
Shunned by crabs, snails, fish and all else.
But she stood resolute midst the shifting tide.
Neither wave nor wind can move her.
For God’s Faith is in her.
Plain or not it’s what’s within that counts,
For beauty is transient but the soul is forever.
Lass, let me kiss you for thou art true.
Lass, your stone is a diamond in my eyes.
Lass, it glitters within my heart.
Pearls I want not,
All I want is your plain stone to light my soul.
