A Secret Everyone Knows
A Secret Everyone Knows
I care for her approval as much as for her love,
For her affections I would take rocks from the creek and turn them into diamonds,
For her devotion I would catch shooting stars in a net above,
For her truth I would sail a raft to Finland...in winter and,
To see her smile I would just be me.
To keep her dry I would build her a house in the Philippines beneath a fluffy palm,
And for her head a pillow made of Mulberry silk,
To keep her safe I would read the 121 Psalm,
And in the morning Kopi Luwak with a dash of milk,
On her dainty finger I’d place a red diamond that glittered like heaven,
On her neck Golden delicious scent from a jar worth one breath of her life,
And to hold her hand anything I would have given,
Her rejection cut through me like a dull knife,
And on nights I dream I still dream of her,
Alone in the darkness when the crickets chirp,
Why this world is so beautiful yet cruel I’ll never be sure,
A secret everyone knows, how deeply one can love and how vast one can hurt.
