A Silver Tongue
Love's sacrificed on the altar of pride
as you brush aside my feelings again.
And your arrogance denies that it died,
convincing yourself, I'm acting insane.
The truth is buried in words of intent,
ignoring the anguish within my cries.
And though lies and deceit marked love's descent,
a veil of compliments clouded my eyes.
Not questioning the status of my fate,
innocence had me believing the dream.
And jumping ahead, unwilling to wait,
I naively took trust to the extreme.
A promise, grown old when hope was still young,
love's not always forever, as fabled.
For when webs are spun by a silver tongue,
flattery's intentions get mislabeled.
As regret and despair contort my mood,
my ego no longer conceals the truth.
And my heart recoils, viewing sex as lewd,
dismissing the expectations of youth.
