A Waking Moment
I wake, eyes misted, warm, in comfort
I am not alone, I sense another, then slowly
Eye focus and see her there, soft breathing
And I watch, not wishing this moment to end
There is a time, brief it is, before the bustle
When all is quiet, to wonder, consider in silence
When words mean nothing, just feelings
And I look, not wishing this moment to end
The rise and fall of shape, a slow, subtle move
Peace, so tranquil, innocent and calm
It is the time when we are real, unmasked
This moment before the day
And I gaze, not wishing this moment to end
I reach to stroke a tress of hair, gently aside
I don’t want to break this spell, this passing
As a fingertip touches her face, eyes flutter
Open slowly and she smiles, moves closer to me and sighs
And I hold her, not wishing this moment to end
