All I Can Do
Fear fills your empty eyes
as thoughts contort your face.
It is hard to believe
that you forgot your name.
And as you shrink inside,
all I can do is weep.
Your identity's gone,
only a shell remains.
And stripped of dignity,
you struggle with your shame.
And yet, despite your pain,
all I can do is weep.
Lost in a mental maze,
you can't find your way out.
And confusion stalks you
within your memories.
And though I'm losing you,
all I can do is weep.
Dwindling into fragments,
you die a bit each day.
And your hours are endured
silently in despair.
And yet, with Alzheimer's,
all I can do is weep.
