Almost Midnight
1957
Oh, midnight's near, my dad made clear- our minutes left- just two!
You know, my dear, we must adhere- though we're engaged- 'tis true.
Please do not fear- that time is here, just hold me close to you.
Can't interfere, must stay sincere- kiss me before adieu.
My souvenir- words in my ear, will keep my love on fire;
don't disappear, let's persevere- last minute will expire.
Let's get in gear and spin our sphere- kiss me to heart's desire.
Our love will steer our new frontier to levels even higher-
when wed with cheer, this time, next year! But now, without sad eyes,
without a tear, we'll still cohere- our hearts will win the prize!
Time's done- though we're inclined to sneer, dad's rule we authorize.
Love's our career, we'll pioneer- till church bells harmonize.
2020
Love's atmosphere, so far premier- full sixty-two years wed!
Hearts did not veer, with much revere- love multiplied and spread.
Gone yesteryear, life's cavalier- old curfew rules were shred;
back then, so drear, yet helped to rear- forever love instead.
