Although
Although you did not marry me, what man has honored more
The dreams you’ve dreamt, your folks there too, gifts fossilized by time!
Although our love missed Bluest Skies, “Je t‘aime” still seems to rhyme
In ‘Poetry of Later Life,’ a prize worth fighting for!
Although all pasts are littered with both love and friends, they’ve lost,
Although somedays you disappoint, my friend, my faith persists!
Was I a fool? At times your tool? Perhaps, but heart resists
These thoughts! My love for you was always worth my time, its cost!
Your family’s united now although with mixed reviews,
Although it proved a joint pursuit, and never yours alone
Love’s shadowed home there always meant you didn’t have to phone!
Another dream I listened to, and still, it’s current news!
Should promises you made me hold, although we’re far apart?
I have no leverage at all, would never file a claim,
Although close family and friends by chance might guess your name,
Should privacy be sacrosanct for matters heart to heart?
Although you feel I judge your life, I hope to take your side!
I trust support I give your mother, brother, kith is fair,
I do not seek to make you wrong, endeavor, want to care,
Although ALL knowledge is ‘half-truth,’ still think of you with pride!
I’d love to see you ‘pass more on,’ although ‘your word’ (I bought),
“Someday, I will!” I shared God’s gifts! Did I neglect one need?
You worked for you and not for me, a future that would ‘feed’
You too, if I was there or not, although I spent a lot
(And not just cash)! All broken promises break hearts and trust
Although a fool might grok few promises are made that last!
I do not call your loan; I call for Grace! The die is cast!
Although all hope (man earns) gets lost if diamond’s flawed by rust!
