An Anthem of Spring
An Anthem of Spring
Evelyn Pearl Anderson
The third month of the year
Visions of snow leaving
Green colors coming on trees;
Springtime begins blooming
Giving meaning to the word “spring”
Derived from old English “springan”
Meaning to spring forth as in how
the flowers bloom this season
Spring is known as the season of
Rebirth, renewal and regrowth*
This is expressed in many ways
From flowers, colorful eggs to new clothes
But the best expression is to attend
An Easter service of one’s choice
There we hear a message
And the choir sing to rejoice
We might be told of how after
The Lord’s Supper was served
Jesus went to the Garden of Gethsemane
There in great agony He prayed
Later, at Mount of Olives, he requested
A donkey and colt to ride into Jerusalem
Leaves of Palm trees were scattered
The King of the Jews would be tortured and shamed
We are reminded of the Crucifixion
Of how our Lord Jesus Christ
Carried the old cross to Calvary
After being mocked, rebuked
Jesus died on this cross at the ninth hour
There at Golgotha, He died for you and me
He was buried in a borrowed tomb
And on the third day, he arose
Hallelujah! He arose! Hallelujah! He’s alive!
We celebrate this miraculous, springtime day
Anthems are sung across many lands
“Christ the LORD is risen today”
How blessed we are, my friends!
Happy Easter!
