An Explanation
An angel told to me: “A kiss is half-forbidden fruit, half-Christ blood,
Half-dawn and half-sunset, half-maiden and half-knight”
Then before he could explain to me any further – behold!
He vanished with a cloud of bright light.
I went after the truth – by myself and one could succor me –
For three days and nights as many,
She kissed me once and I kissed her more,
Each kiss the first, each kiss uncanny.
What the angel has told me? The angel with no name –
All words bygone
For a kiss, all explanations – the best and worst – all inane!
A kiss is but a kissing done,
Nothing more divine, or more human,
And this I discovered – almost – alone.
