An Ordinary Day
I don't know how
It happened.
But I do know when;
You were standing there
Making a speech to
Rally the troops.
Promised us success and
Happiness
And I don't know how
Or why it happened
But I looked away
For one second
And when I looked up again
You were new -
You were glowing
As if the very energy
In the room
Wanted me to see
Wanted to show me
That you were the one
Meant for me.
It was staggering
I was sitting down
And still I felt myself falling.
You were there
Glowing, emanating something
Beautiful and insane,
Talking as if
Nothing had changed.
And I was falling,
Plummeting through space
And time
And then you looked at me
And time didn't stop
Didn't slow
But i found myself
Seated in the chair
Staring into your eyes.
And then you turned away
And kept talking.
They say love is
A lot of things.
Crazy and wonderful and
Heartbreaking
And it is,
It's all of those things.
But it's more.
And it's so much less,
Nowhere near as complex.
Because we fall
And we lose ourselves in
The feelings of it all,
But one look at them -
At you,
And I'm grounded.
I can breathe again,
Even though internally
I can't stop screaming.
I can see again
Despite your eyes
Haunting me.
I can laugh again,
Even as I picture
You smiling.
I don't know how
Or why it happened
But I remember when
Because I panicked
And then
I didn't.
