And Dreams Go On
I wandered down a road today
Reminded me of yesterday
There was a house built into a hill
The glass was gone and all was still.
A black bull calf jumped upon a ridge
Shook his head and headed toward a bridge
Trotted across the broken planks
Down to the shore to take a drink.
There were no trees, no forms of shade
Except under the bridge that the planks had made
The calf waded in belly deep
Splashed the water with his nose and took a drink.
It was a lake filled by the rains
As evidenced by the gorges it had made
As eons pass the deeper they grow
Causing valleys where prairie flowers blow.
Billy was beside me
His feelings the same as mine
This is a land where a man
Could have a family and thrive.
Why the deserted dwelling you ask
Only God now knows
But if we were blessed
We would like to make it ours.
You see,
Dreams never die
You just keep on looking
Until they look you in the eye.
It is to late
To once again reach for ours
For Billy's with the Lord above
And I now tend his flowers.
