And Then You'Re Gone
we're in your bedroom
tired and out of breath
it's quiet.
i lay there
listening to you breathe.
the bed squeaks
and you rise.
you tell me this can't go on
as you slip your shirt
over your head.
you tell me you're tired
of the secrecy and lies.
i rise
pretending i didn't hear.
a stray curl has fallen
in your face.
i reach for you
but you stop my hand
and hold it.
sky blue meets forest green
and i understand.
my chest tightens and
i lose myself.
your eyes cloud
with tears.
before i can brush them away
you bruise my lips with
one last kiss.
and then....
you're gone.
