Love Poem: Arrival

Arrival

i’ll leave the back door open, unlocked
the porch light on
the key under the mat
for you tonight
in case you stop by my
red eyed, purple circled, painted and powdered
humble abode
for a cram session in
analyzing 206
theory 114
and love 319.
i’ll light some extra stars
in case you come by rooftop
jumping on stepping stones
made of stars
over a river of procrastination
and separation.
i’ll set the ringer on high
in case you need to call.
i’ll feel lost for you
sound strong and in control
get confused and muddled
i’ll even manage some tears
just do come by
i’d so like to have you.
my room lights up
when you walk in
my bed gets warmer
when you arrive
the world spins a little faster
and time is all but meaningless
when you and your shadow
make your entrance.
so, you see, it would be better on us all if you –
of you will? good.

can i get you something
a glass of water for your ego?
or maybe a bunch of carbs
to pump it up?
oh, you have to go?
well, see you soon
talk to you later.

and so you left
and return again
whether for the journey on rooftops
or airwaves
or the painful stuffing of your brain
or maybe the wonderful refreshments
i never know
you says it is for me, only
but i can’t believe that –
who would want me?
