At Full Brightness

Blue was for her eyes so bright,
The sun was jealous of their light,
For that ocean-stained gaze
I’d sail directionless for days.

Red was for those lips I kissed,
That mouth that spoke of how she missed
My touch, my fingers in her hair,
My whispers filling up the air.

White was for that summer dress,
Her feet bare, hair in a mess,
For her soul so pure and clean,
The brightest glow I’d ever seen.

Black’s for that hole in my chest
That’s been there ever since she left.
For cold dark nights taken by storm,
When the memory of light is all that keeps me warm.
