At Last Love

So this is a poem written by my Granddad, Kelvin Leaf in 1955. He has written quiet a few and what an honor it was for me to have him read them all to me... Priceless

Notions of love fill my aching heart -
Shreds of love with a wonderful part.
Love for a girl all in humility.
At last love, you’ve found felicity

The tedium of Saturday and length of day -
Come to put a final stray
Searcher and search at last met,
At last love my words were set.

Grapping blankets, pulling at sheets.
Love will always try to seep.
Fumbling with switches, mopping the brow.
At last love has found its prowl.

Morning came, it was the same.
Cleaner’s, corners were too tame.
Grim, alert I hid the fact-
Yet love alone tried its tact.

Who’s to blame? Loves the same.
Time alone peeps out to tame.
Yet one must wait to make the start.
As last love that’s my part.

I look at my classroom, I look at my home.
Love alone shall be my bone.
Resolved in will to humbly pine -
As last love we will dine.

The heat of the day, the toil of youth -
You alone will tell the truth.
Bubbling brook and murmuring stream.
At last love we’ve had our dream.

Scholarly pen, enlightening book-
Love and I have had a look.
Flower of delight, bird of flight-
At last love I’ve flown my kite.

Who is she oh whispering wind?
Does she dwell in yonder hills?
Come and blow and set the test-
At last love we’ll have a rest.

Doris, you are mine, I’m yours,
Please smile favorably on our cause
Loving ways and humble gaze.
At last love you loving blaze.
