At Least 'I Am' Still Making Noise
At Least 'I AM' (Still Making Noise)
Own my home (with the bank), love most mensch, some that thrive,
Still, days cry out like twins of disaster,
A "poetry addict," 'friends' say (those alive)!
Each new poem's a weather forecaster,
Whose art reveals Grace, not just taking up space
As I slide, be it gently toward each day's good night.
I'm aware you hurt too, but what more can I do
Than to care what you think and insist you're alright.
As I've aged, seems to me that most 'faithful' feel blue.
Dylan Thomas be proud? Would he greet me out loud
(Though he's out with good friends) might he still hold me dear?
Is it vain hope I aid some for whom going's tough,
That the love that both meter and rhyme reveals here
Sings a song that is buoyant and not just a bluff
From one hoping to win praise from others with spin?
Take a rest by my side when the future's unsure,
Your 'uncertainty' might prove 'excitement.'
A child who has questions held up as impure?
How can Grace ever be an indictment?
