Autumn Fire
Smouldering a dissipating fever
The sunset held our hearts just above the horizon
The hot stream of love’s dying blaze
A haze risen at sundown to ask the nightly question
An icy breeze carries inland to the beach
It finds me patiently waiting on her love in a shiver
The leaves and sand wish-wash like waves
In the echoes of the splatter of the fading memory of summer
Outside our fountain of love I crumble
I would be a bouquet wilting in another’s forgettable cold hands
I lay beneath the frozen stars on your lawn
Stargazing as you transform through the window of a season
Twilight prying in romantic moonlight
Silhouettes whisper a golden glow of the autumn campfire
