Love Poem: Beauty

Beauty

There's a saying, "Beauty is in the eye of the beholder"
That's a load of crap...
Must'a been written by someone real ugly,
The words just reek of sap...

But, I'll grant you this,
Physical beauty is naught
but reflected photons,
Arranged for the brain's
taste for symmetry,

Not necessarily pleasant,
as you can plainly see,
Those "perfect physical specimens"
May have a seriously flawed heart,
No make-up known to man,
Can help them to impart

Their "inner beauty", their personal quality,
are blinded to themselves
Just the skin covered membrane,
That's all that they do see,

Beauty is only soul deep
And that is deep enough,
Beauty is only soul deep
A diamond in the rough,

Beauty is only soul deep
It'll shine when you are gone
Beauty is only soul deep,
Your kindness will live on,

Ahhh, if they could put this
in a jar,
And sell it for a hundred bucks,
The "beautiful" out there,
Would say, "Aww, shucks..."

They don't need no stinkin' ointment,
No moisturizers for blemishes deep,
Their skin is kind of perfect,
Their beauty for them to keep

But mirrors show but the shell
of one,
No way reflecting what they've
done,
Be it good, or bad, making others
happy, making sad,
No halo's glow can cover
A flawed soul's inner worth
That soul is doomed forever,
To walk a pointless Earth

Beauty is only soul deep
Beauty is only soul deep
These are words that will shield you
From words of hurt and pain

Beauty is only soul deep
I've said it once again.

For my friend, you know who you are.......
