Love Poem: Before Dawn Breaks My Heart

Before Dawn Breaks My Heart

Though morning comes to those who wait,
There are no guarantees that light
Will lessen load or gladden heart.
With access barred to heaven’s gate,
When happiness seems out of sight,
Thoughts rise that pain is just our part.

To choose to live in fear of that
Seems self-fulfilling prophecy
For all life’s lessons have their pain.
Contortions of an acrobat,
A different kind of fluency,
What language does not come with gain?

I do not know how long we’ll last
Know only that you play a role
In making sun rise frequently,
Though love seemed dim in recent past
You bring a different kind of soul
That colors rainbows found in me.

All life conforms to Nature’s laws,
Which can conspire to make us blue,
Trust Love to true the damaged wheel.
Though doubts can sometimes make us pause,
Just once before the dawn comes true,
Oh let me whisper what I feel…
