Below We Two
(For "Focus on Syllables" contest, by Catie Lindsey)
Below we two,
a wondrous view
Lay below, for it was spread
With jasmine blossoms white and red;
And bluebells nodding in the breeze
Nearby weeping willow trees.
We stood there on that hill -
Amazed that time stood still.
We stood between the day and night,
A radiant light in our sight,
Sun that had begun to slide
Beyond our small hill’s western side.
We watched it touch down, saw it gild
All the flowers in the field.
When all the world was good,
On verge of dusk we stood.
When time moved on, it found us then
Asleep in our old spot, a glen.
Tired at last, we’d made our way
That moonless night, until we lay
In darkening serenity.
Then awakened, we would see
The whispering of dawn
As precious time moved on. . .
