Brittle Mind
When we had met first
In the hours of setting sun
I sketched your face to last
On a blank page of my mind
In colors of the glowing horizon,
Demurely smiling, the eyes sparkling
Reflected the hues the cloud streaks adorn.
I travelled in turmoil
Through formidable tempest of time
That destroyed everything I had built.
Leaving the ruins behind I started a new journey.
During an interlude in the construction of life
I took out the sketch so long out of sight
From the recess of tenuous memory
In the twilight hours of fading light.
I was elated to find your face
Smiling in all its saved glory
Bereft of signs of ravage
Time inflicts inevitably.
The design of the first love
An indelible feeling had immutable presence
In the unassailable depths of the mind
Even if it became brittle with time
And crumbled like broken dream
When the heart ruptured.
