Broadway In the Rain
Forgotten words, nostalgic tunes
They seem to fill my wasteland head,
A neon sign, a flash of light,
A life I sometimes leave for dead.
Reminding me of wondrous senses,
A vision honed that will remain,
And I hear heady warm cadences
On that Broadway in the rain.
A fleeting breath, a passing sigh
Deposits secrets in my mind,
A scarlet dress, a lipstick trace,
A passion raw and unrefined.
Excites me with a wild emotion,
Decrees a seething water main
Erupt and make a midnight ocean
On that Broadway in the rain.
A sweet refrain, your siren song
Magnetically pulls me to the night;
My sheltered heart, umbrella soul,
A secret gift of second sight.
Predicting I will some day meet you,
An angel for my devils pain,
And with a kiss I’d gently greet you
On that Broadway in the rain.
