Broken Unbrellas
Broken Umbrellas by Mike Lee
as the
red fire sun
nibbles away
the pink ends of the day
my last thoughts
will be of you
you
with your
tinny
white
ankles
dipped
in
a blood red
rain
and
your
broken
blue umbrella
fighting
the wind
like a caged
matador
under
a
bull dog
sky
while
critics
pour out
word
sand
castles
on distant
shores
leaving
you
untouchable
as
i watch
the dark
sky
swallow
us all
such
soft words
sails
at sunset
swells in surf
memories
boats
pass
us
in a fog
friends
forget u
and the sharks
eat
the rest
life pours
out
on broken
rocks
pennies
and poetry
white sails
at sunset
fingers
twist
thoughts
like
broken
pretzels
and poetry
both
assaults
and
astound
my senses
my temples
on a printed page
sharp as
glass egos
words wound
out of tune
discarding
friends
like so much old
baggage
memories
discard
the truth
hiding
reflections
in
broken
mirrors
under
covers
of flesh
and
regret
some
words
we can't take back
sharp as
broken glass
word on a page
cut into us
