Cardboard Castles
I’ve looked for you all of my life
from sights first wonder, newness of light
in secret meetings of shadow time
beneath a dream’s painful decline
To decades loss, needless stain
I sought you in each drop of rain
In sun’s descent for dimming shade
life at harbor, hearts at rage
in cardboard castles, child escape
kingdom chairs, blankets drape
in lust release, vice contained
in fire a guilty soul sustains
I looked for you there, and would I still
If ours, a order fate couldn’t fill
I’d peer from death - grip of the slave -
look for you there, even the grave
