Carved Hearts
At the footbridge she always read his name
along with hers that they had carved together
on the wooden side plank.
They also had carved two hearts intertwined,
though their love met an early end she still
meets him in her dreams.
When she passes the bridge it brings back
those golden memories when they walked
together hand in hand.
She still watches the pair of swans passing
under the footbridge and feels his presence
somewhere around watching.
When soft snow covers the carving, she wipes
off the snow to make his name visible and
kisses it with her cold lips.
Whenever she feels lonely, she comes to the
footbridge, it is now like a shrine to her
after his untimely death.
