Contemplating the Moon
I used to be scientific about stars
and on those occasions
when I noticed the moon,
I never knew
its distance could be measured
by something more than miles.
Then you threw a net around the sky
and handed me the moon
like a balloon,
just long enough for me to touch it,
then you let it go.
Now the moon is my companion
and you are distant,
yet only in miles.
When the roadmap has been folded,
distance is defined in one small step
(or is it one gigantic leap?)
Only then
will time stand still
as we race to catch the wind,
and laughing as we fail,
I'll lean back into your arms
in a field full of fireflies,
contemplating the moon.
