Love Poem: Crying Shame

Crying Shame

I drive a taxi
And over the Christmas period
The charge per mile is higher over Christmas
because they are public holiday's
And on Christmas day I drove a father
a 10.5 miles round trip to pick up his son
From his ex who he had for the day
Which would normally cost about £30
But in total though it came to £55 about $79 dollar's U.S

And watching them interact on the journey home
I thought how on earth with a conscious and a soul
Could i charge this Father and Son
£55 to be together over Christmas
So I charged him £25 but he offered me £40
Telling me he knew how much it would cost
And that he knew i was working on Christmas day
Feeling empathy for me somehow
In the end i had to bargain him down and settle on £30

And I thought after accepting it
And driving away
What a crying shame on me and credit to him
Watching them i hope that little boy
Know's that the astronomical cost of a cab fare
Was a cost willing to pay
For a Father wanting to see his son over Christmas

Happy Christmas all
And spare a prayer a lottery winning thought
For all those unsung genuine people
Like this doting father
Who forsake themselves above anyone else

Love, Happiness and Prosperity
To all of those who try
With no ulterior motive
To them this world and the next
May God Protect
Please
