Dark of the Night
I ran through the woods on a starry night
At peace I felt as all alright
The chill air stung as I breathe
I turned to see what little path I leave
Out of the sudden left reason to pause
It came it the dark of night without cause
It flashed brighter than a lightning rod
A streak of beauty painted by the hand of God
Never before had I seen brilliance more
I became the hungry being fed by the poor
As quickly as it came it disappeared
But in my memory forever it seared
The light showed the woods on the darkest of night
I turned again and remember my miles of plight
All ran without sight
It may not have stayed
But heavy on me it weighed
Never again did I run in the dark
I pray for the day I see another spark
