Do You Love Me
DO YOU LOVE ME?
Do you love me?
Sorry what was that?
Put the morning paper down and talk to me you rat.
Sorry, I was miles away; now what was that you said?
I need to know you love me and that everything’s all right
But of course you know I love you; I thought I showed you that last night.
That was sex we had last night, not love, it doesn’t prove a thing.
I like to think of it as making love and that means everything.
But you never say ‘I love you’ except when we’re in bed.
That really isn’t true, what you just said,
It is. When did you say it last? I bet you’ve no idea.
Er ...it was Sunday morning in the middle of IKEA.
No, you said ‘I love you too’ and only when I’d just said ‘I love you.’
You always say ‘I love you too.
I suppose I thought, with what we shared. It didn’t need the words to show I cared.
Sometimes, I think my love’s too strong. It’s all too perfect; something must go wrong.
What could possibly go wrong?
Maybe, you’ll just stop loving me
I won’t stop loving you. I’ll love you forever.
All right then, tell you why you love me.
Why? That’s difficult to quantify....but let me try.
I love what happens to your face each time you smile.
And I’m devastated by that twinkle in your eye.”
Don’t stop, keep going.”
I love to watch you without you knowing.
Good, I like that bit. But what do you see when you watch me?
When you concentrate you purse your lips
And, when you’re using scissors, your mouth moves in time with every snip.
Oh dear, I’ll have to stop that.”
Don’t you dare. It’s cute.
Cute, I’m a bit old for cute. What else
It’s hard, to find the right words to explain,
But, sometimes, when you come towards me, my heart beats so fast I actually feel pain.
And when you go away, it all goes flat
I didn’t know, you never told me that.
And when you’re not there, I think about you every minute,
But when you are, I look at you and know for sure my world could not exist without you in it.
Wow.
In short, my dear I love you.
I love you too.
