Each To Their Separation

EACH TO THEIR SEPARATION

So they meet,
He, attempting to be
Non-committal,
Unobtrusive, showing
A better part to play,

But the fire within is scarcely stifled,
Raging as it does from being kindled
By incandescent flame,
Never consumed.

Gazing with undiminished longing
Upon beauty's effortless brilliance,
Emanated from every sensual part
Of who the other is.

He can only wait in vain
For unfulfilled embracing,
Thirsty from rich nectar, oozed out
At every point on glistening skin,
Smooth over a hidden body.

Blurred by rose-hued scales,
He is faced with the warm onslaught
Of enticing hands, drawing him
Into an open heart of
Unbound constraints.

He yields every weakened defence
To the youthful conqueror,
Laying windblown colours
By the swiftness of supple feet.

His one-sided love from beyond the seas
Transforms as rock-laden promontory,
Assembled to shipwreck endeavour,
So as to cast him overboard
Because of an act of folly.

So he lives as though banishing
The merest thought of temptation
To risk everything on one throw
Of a mistrustful dice.

Tomorrow becomes
Today's blistering reality,
Melts down the flimsy facade.

An imagined angel retreats
Into yesterday, along with
The repository of all that is insecure.

But he remembers the smile,
Flashed across the open expanse,
To be then extinguished
In a sudden moment.

Soon their ways no longer
Touch, even with a lightness,
Departed away
Into the mists from where they came -
Each to their own separation.
