Love Poem: End Game

End Game

Mortality is setting in
I feel it in my bones
I feel it more in my heart and soul
Real life losses are hammering the point home
This is not a long game we play
Time on earth devoured by work, obligations, and bills
Simple joys enjoyed more
Time with loved ones becomes more important than things
Memories invade
Straining to remember their voice
The electricity of touch
Pain mounts
As those I wish to talk to most
Have no voice left to offer me
I long to look into eyes I can remember
I reach out for hands no longer their
No words of reassurance, encouragement, or comfort
Emptiness fills their spot
Enjoy
The time
With those you have
When you have them
