Eternal Goodnight
If I say your name loud enough,
It sounds like the truth.
And still you don't listen.
Still you don't move,
Out of the room that I'm laying,
My secondhand heart on the line.
You turn and your eyes tell me,
You're saying goodbye.
But if I had known,
I would have tried harder.
Until my body was spent.
Anything to stop what happened,
Your pale skin cleaned the pavement.
The night the world ended.
Your family was there,
As I ran through the rain.
Trying to find your arms,
That lay empty again.
Your fingers wave softly,
There are tears in your eyes.
They close and you tell me,
You're saying goodbye.
The funeral ends,
Now midnight draws near.
The autumn leaves descend now,
But I am still here.
I'm paralyzed by my guilt,
In the freezing night air.
I light up a cigarette,
And take out my guitar.
I sit there strumming,
Out your favorite song.
And sufficate on the memories,
Of how you always sang along.
But tonight the voice is only mine.
I leave another red rose,
But I can't say goodbye.
So my darling, my love and my life...
Eternally goodnight.
