Eyes of a Saint
Your eyes showed me your heart
And in them I saw your best
Those windows, opened wide and bright
Cast on me their lovely light
Then my own eyes cried
To see yours closed in rest
I saw myself inside your eyes
Like twin phantoms in those clear blue skies
And it haunted me, my soul to see
In the eyes of a saint so blessed
That I had to turn away until
They closed themselves in rest
The light in them, now cold and dull
Was once so bright and beautiful
As I watched your eyes
And the light in them die
As the sun died in the west
And the skies wept rain eternally
When your eyes closed, forever, in rest.
