For a Moment
For a moment, I believed
I even allowed myself to breathe. . .
To smile upon you in all that was said and done
For a moment, you were there
And a simple thought made me beam
I was there looking you in the eye it seemed
For a moment, doubt swept under my feet
Threatening to bring me to the ground
But your words pulled me up by the string
For a heavy moment, I realized
Just how far you are from me
Too far to be close—to far to allow that smile
And for another sad, long moment,
I sit here in awe-struck despair
Wondering why the smile was ever there
