From Adversity
From adversity, decked in thorny
gravel studs, bloomed kindness, fragrant,
sweet;
electric at birth, this friendship surged
a current. Nectar from a silver cup
rinsed bitter copper residue
from my mouth;
healed my lips that before had
torn and sagged with sipping broken glass
and tears.
From adversity, she came, the listener,
comforter, sounding board absorbed of my
words;
taking my pain, killing the sting
of vinegar. Wounds healed by
the balm of her soul,
her transcendent touch;
how dearly I love her, and say to her now:
from adversity you delivered me; for you I
will always be there...
