Grandma's Old Ring
Grandma's old ring
Everyday grandma put on
A diamond ring
With words engraved
On the back.
I never got a chance to see these words
For they were always hidden.
I built up courage
To ask my beloved grandmother about this beautiful ring,
Her crystal eyes filled with tears
As a knot tied in my stomach,
"This ring was given to me by your grandfather,
My husband,
Before he was killed in war.
I've kept it for many years as a memory."
She took this jewel off her frail hand
And with a swift motion
Set it down on a table.
Crying tears of agony
She rest her head
On my shoulder.
