Love Poem: Guilty

Guilty

It was early in the morning
Every seat was filled
The Judge bangs his gavel
The verdict will be revealed

The sentence would be life
If it goes the plaintiff's way
The accused consults his council
For he has these words to say

"Your Honor, I just can't help it
I tried to walk away
But something deep inside of me
Told me I had to stay

I didn't mean to do it
But it built up in my chest
There was nothing left for me to do
So, that's the reason I confessed"

A hush fell over the courtroom
The Judge asked him for his plea
He said, "Your Honor, I'm guilty
Of love in the first degree"

The Judge hands down his sentence
And the plaintiff is now his wife
"You must promise to love and cherish her
For the rest of your natural life"
