Happy Birthday My Daughter
To the light of my life, Happy Birthday,
There are a few things I’d just like to say,
You’ve blessed my life for the past 15 years,
As we’ve shared laughter and at times, tears.
Fifteen years ago to the day, you caused me much pain,
But if I had the choice, I’d do it all again,
8 hours, 45 minutes, you really took your time,
My beautiful little bundle all covered in slime.
Your hair was dark and your lashes long,
And your grip on my finger was amazingly strong,
Your pouty lips, your perfect nose,
You were absolutely gorgeous, from your head to your toes.
The first time I held you close to me,
My heart was beating rapidly,
I whispered a promise into your ear,
That “I will always protect you, my dear”.
I look at you now and see what you’ve become,
And I hope with my heart, I’ve been OK as your Mum,
I will always keep my promise to you,
To protect and love you with a heart that’s true.
