Hell and Heaven
Hell and heaven are of the human heart
And there do they exist.
No war fair is waged in there
But hearts, like ships, do list
To port or the stars, their choice is made
Bleeding out one side or the other
The scarring firms the heart that heals
Either for or against lost lovers.
If all is lost, if we choose hell
Then life is dimmed in pain
The shadows taint every rose
And sadness marks the rain.
If we choose heaven, if we choose light
Then the trivial is forgot
And cool crisp nights in a lover’s arms
Burn as summer is hot.
Hell and heaven
Heaven and Hell
They burn the heart
I know it well.
