His Cold Eyes
I bang my fists against the glass,
the water fills the tank too fast.
The pressure slows my fists from moving,
I can't get enough air for what I'm losing.
It reaches my neck,
I tilt my head back.
I gasp for more air,
I see you there.
Things begin to slow as there's a sense of hope.
I just need your attention for the glass to be broke.
You don't seem to hear my screams or my fists,
I'm starting to falter now as the water persists.
All hope seems lost,
until you turn.
You look me in the eyes,
but something is wrong.
The mood all changes as I look closely,
I look deeper and its not you I see.
Your eyes are cold and not quite right,
something is missing, they lost their light.
That glimmer I once saw is gone,
something with you is incredibly wrong.
I scream for help again but your face doesn't change,
you begin to turn from me while I'm still in this cage.
I call out for you but there's no response,
water washes over me and my breathing stops.
You notice the silence and turn back to me,
I look at the man who was once my safety.
Surely you can't have no plans to save me?
Surely you won't watch while I'm drowning?
I try to bang on the glass one more time,
but my body is done and it resigns.
I'm overcome with an extreme fatigue,
my lungs burn and I am weak.
My love, my protector, and my relief,
Oh, why have you abandoned me?
I want to be angry and I want to cry,
but all I can do is pray you're alright.
Because your eyes remain cold
as mine close.
