How We Came To Be
We met on my front doorstep
In a most amusing way.
I never dreamed when I first saw you,
That I would marry you some day.
You came to my apartment
At the invitation of some friends,
But I had never met you,
And was not quick to let you in.
Your friends had not arrived yet,
And I didn't have a clue.
I thought you were a salesman,
So I asked, "Can I help you?"
"Hi, I'm Rob," you answered,
With a grin upon your face,
And as I stood with questioning eyes,
It faded just a trace.
Finally, you told me
You'd been sent to my address,
By a couple of friends from church,
Who said you'd be welcomed as a guest.
So I opened up the door
To let you come inside.
I introduced myself to you,
And then I noticed your bright blue eyes.
You said your name was "Merryman",
And you came from "Niceville", too.
I had promised not to laugh,
But it was so hard not to do.
You appeared to be a real nice guy.
You were friendly, cute and polite.
But we were only friends at first.
Romance was not in sight.
But soon our eyes were opened,
And we began to date.
A few months down the road
We knew we'd found our perfect mate.
We were married on a Saturday,
May 30, 1981.
Surrounded by friends and family,
Our life together had begun.
We've been married for many years, now.
We have two sons who are grown.
We've seen "for better and for worse",
As the years have quickly flown.
The Lord has been so good to us.
He's kept our love alive.
It's been His loving presence,
That has made our marriage thrive.
So I give God all the glory,
And I praise Him more and more,
For bringing us together,
That day at my front door.
